Main options to bring your family members to Spain with you. 

In this article we are going to list the most important options available to you if you are a non-EU foreign citizen with legal residence in Spain and would like to bring your family members to live with you.

We are going to look at 7 types of residence permits:

 

1- Residence permit for FAMILY REAGRUPATION.

This is the most important option for all those foreign citizens who are legally residing in Spain and wish to bring their family members.

This is a long process that envolves a lot of requirements, such as the suitability of the dwelling, having economic means or having already resided in Spain for some time before requesting the permit for our relatives.

The validity of the Residence Permit for Family Reunification is linked to the main permit and the duration of the applicant's card. For that reason, and once we are close to the expiration date of the card ( TIE) , we must renew our permit in order to be able to continue in Spain legally.

 

2- Relatives of investors, highly qualified workers or digital nomads.

In general, all residence authorizations included in the entrepreneurs law (LEY 14/2013), allows to get a residence permit to the relatives of the main applicant. 

 

3- Mobility of Researchers' Relatives, EU-Blue Card and EU-Long Term Residence.

It is a residence permit that may be granted to the family members of those foreign citizens who are holders of the EU-blue card, and long-term residents-EU, when they have such status recognized in another Member State of the European Union, provided that the family was already constituted in that State.

4- Family members of students.

Those persons who come with an authorization of stay to study may also bring their family members.

This authorization for the family members of a student won´t allow them to work in Spain and will be conditioned to the validity of the student´s permit.

 5- Independent residence of regrouped family members.

The Independent Residence Authorization of the regrouped relatives is an authorization of residence and work independent of the regrouping and that will be able to obtain the holders of residence by family regrouping.

6- Residence for family members of European citizens

Those foreign citizens from outside the EU who have a family member of European nationality may apply for a residence permit and benefit from the advantages offered by the european regime.

7- Residence for family ties

Those foreign citizens from outside the EU who have a family member of Spanish nationality may apply for a residence permit and benefit from the advantages offered by the family roots regime.
